The main island of the Amami Islands, Kagoshima Prefecture. Subtropical evergreen broadleaf forests, mangroves and a sea of intricate inlets spread across the island. In 2021 it was inscribed as part of the World Natural Heritage site "Amami-Oshima Island, Tokunoshima Island, Northern part of Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island".

The Story of
Amami Oshima
A coastline cut deeply by ria inlets, and subtropical forest covering the mountains. Amami Oshima is an island where sea and forest lie close together.
In the primeval forest of Kinsakubaru, great tree ferns cover the sky, and birdsong echoes through the humid air. Creatures found only on this island, such as the Amami rabbit, live here.
Mangrove forests spread at the river mouths, and you can follow the waterways by canoe.
